Local Legend Heidi McGurrin

Carmel is a small town indeed but do not be fooled by its quaintness, it is a place of global and historical stature. Through out the decades it has gained a reputation as the home of movers, shakers, and revolutionaries. One such legendary figure is local resident Heidi McGurrin. She came into the showroom the other day and as we got to chatting she shared her fascinating life story with us. Heidi is a photographer, artist, and true renaissance woman. She is the granddaughter of Jane & Frank Gallatin Powers, who founded Carmel-by-the-Sea at the beginning of the 20th century.

Later this year Heidi will appear in the much anticipated documentary “House of Legends”. The film chronicles the history of the Russian Embassy building in San Francisco. Heidi lived in the historic run down building for several years. Its other residents included the likes of Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and Tom Wolfe.
